Bain Capital leads $74M investment in RQD* Clearing

Bain Capital led a $74 million minority growth investment in RQD* Clearing, joined by ABN AMRO Clearing Bank and Nyca Partners to fund technology and geographic expansion.

Bain Capital has led a $74 million minority growth investment in RQD* Clearing, with ABN AMRO Clearing Bank and Nyca Partners also participating. The financing was made through Bain’s Tech Opportunities fund.

The firm plans to use the capital to expand technology and product capabilities, including work on digital assets and tokenisation, and to grow its presence in North America, Asia and the Middle East. RQD* launched in 2021 as a clearing and custody provider for broker-dealers, registered investment advisers and foreign financial institutions seeking access to US markets.

RQD* operates a proprietary clearing platform rather than adding software onto legacy systems. The platform provides clients with real-time visibility into their data. The company says that capability helps clients avoid delayed files, fragmented systems and manual post-trade processes and supports faster product launches with greater operational transparency.

The $74 million is structured as a minority growth investment intended to accelerate product development and widen service coverage. RQD* has highlighted digital assets and tokenisation among its priority areas, alongside upgrades to core clearing and custody services that support cross-border market access.

The investor group combines an institutional clearing bank and a fintech-focused investor, reflecting both market-structure experience and technology-focused capital backing RQD*’s plans.

Michael Sanocki, RQD* Clearing’s chief executive, commented: “Financial institutions should not have to choose between the technology and agility of a fintech and the market-structure expertise, risk management and infrastructure of an institutional clearing firm. We built RQD* to deliver both, and Bain Capital’s investment will help us accelerate that mission while continuing to deliver the flexibility and service our clients expect.”

Clearing firms perform post-trade processing, settlement and custody functions required to operate in securities markets. RQD* offers an end-to-end platform aimed at reducing operational frictions that can slow product rollouts and create inefficiencies for firms trading in or seeking access to US market structure.
