Apple to Reveal Foldable iPhone, iPhone 18 Pro on Sept. 9
Apple will introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone at a Sept. 9 event, the company’s first major product launch under CEO John Ternus.
The Sept. 9 presentation will center on Apple’s high-end iPhone models and a long-anticipated foldable device. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Air are expected to arrive later, possibly in spring 2027, while the iPhone 17 and 17 Air remain available until their replacements ship.
Industry reports describe the foldable as a book-style device with an outer display of roughly 5.3 to 5.5 inches and an inner screen near 7.6 to 7.8 inches. The device is reported to use a titanium frame, aim for an ultra-thin profile and include a display engineered to reduce the visible crease.
Price estimates place the foldable’s starting point around $2,000, with higher-capacity versions potentially near $3,000. Traders in prediction markets assigned a high probability that the starting price would be at least $2,000.
Apple plans to position the foldable as a premium “halo” product intended to attract high-value buyers and create a fresh upgrade cycle. The company is also expected to introduce the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, along with updates to the Apple Watch and AirPods.
Supply-chain pressures influenced the staggered release schedule. Strong demand for the iPhone 17 lineup has tightened supplies of semiconductor processors, while a global memory shortage tied to growing artificial-intelligence workloads has increased component costs. David Naranjo, associate director at Counterpoint Research, noted that those memory constraints and inflation have led Apple to focus on premium SKUs to maximize revenue and protect margins.
Some analysts expect Apple could raise prices across the iPhone 18 lineup, with one firm suggesting a possible $200 increase per model. Other analysts cautioned that higher prices could reduce sales volumes and affect profitability if demand does not meet premium pricing.
Artificial intelligence is a core part of the product cycle. Apple plans an upgraded Siri driven by Apple Intelligence, combining on-device processing, Apple’s cloud compute services and optional third-party models for more complex requests. The updated assistant is designed to synthesize information across messages, emails and photos and to perform multistep tasks across apps. Apple has increased device memory to support these capabilities.
Analysts remain cautious after earlier AI delays. Anshel Sag, principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, observed that Apple had previously overpromised on AI and underdelivered, and suggested that a CEO with a strong product focus could affect how the company executes on its AI roadmap.
For investors, the Sept. 9 event provides a near-term test of Apple’s premium-focused strategy and AI plans. Apple shares have risen about 18% year to date. Availability, pricing and early reviews of the foldable device and Apple Intelligence features are likely to shape expectations for the company’s next product cycle.
