AEON launches agentic checkout for AI shopping
AEON launched Agentic Checkout to let AI agents search, build carts and pay using an AEON AI Card backed by Visa and Mastercard.
AEON announced Agentic Checkout, a system that lets AI agents search for products, assemble shopping carts and complete payments on e-commerce platforms such as Shopify using an AEON AI Card backed by Visa and Mastercard.
The service links conversational agent interfaces with payment authorization and settlement so a user can describe a purchase in plain language, have an agent find matching items, and then approve a completed checkout without exposing the user’s primary payment credentials.
Agents can move from product discovery to cart creation and payment. Users can authorize purchases with AEON AI Cards that are issued as single-use credentials or scoped with predefined budget limits. Agentic Checkout is integrated with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) to pass context, product data and transaction flows between agents and merchant checkouts.
AEON demonstrated the feature on Shopify, where agents can access more than 3 million active storefronts across over 175 countries and more than a billion products in categories including apparel, home goods, beauty, electronics and books. AEON plans to extend agent access to other large inventories, including Amazon for mass-market retail and Travala for travel bookings.
The AEON AI Card gives agents controlled spending power while keeping control with the user. Authorizations use crypto-based methods and settlement is routed through Visa and Mastercard payment rails, allowing on-chain assets to be used in commerce without giving agents direct access to a user’s main wallet or credit card.
AEON built safeguards for production use. Full card numbers and security codes are not stored in conversation logs or model context. The system checks uncertain payment states before retrying charges to prevent accidental duplicate payments.
AEON is assembling a settlement layer that links agent identity, authorization, checkout execution and settlement. Agentic Checkout and the AI Card are described by the company as connected components of that settlement infrastructure, intended to support agent-driven transactions across digital and physical goods.
