72% of U.S. consumers use AI assistants, Visa finds

Seventy-two percent of U.S. consumers have used AI assistants, according to Visa’s latest Trust Index on payments, privacy and technology.

Visa’s Trust Index found 72% of U.S. consumers have used AI assistants. The Index is a periodic survey that measures consumer attitudes on payments, privacy and new technologies.

The report describes broad adoption of voice- and text-based assistants for everyday tasks and business interactions across the United States. Respondents reported using assistants on smartphones, in-app virtual helpers and connected home devices to find products, answer questions and complete routine tasks.

Users identified convenience and speed as primary reasons for using assistants.

The Index also identified concerns about privacy and security. Many respondents reported worries about how their data is collected and used and indicated different levels of trust depending on who operates the assistant. The report notes higher comfort with tools from familiar brands and financial institutions than with unknown third parties.

On payments, the report states consumers expect smooth, secure ways to complete transactions initiated through assistants and want clear information about how purchases are authorized and protected. The Index recommends that payment companies and merchants clarify data-handling practices and strengthen authentication flows for commerce via AI interfaces.

Visa placed the findings within a wider comparison of consumer sentiment on digital wallets, contactless payments and other emerging technologies. The report recommends firms provide clear disclosures and user choice when introducing AI-driven features.

The Visa Trust Index is published periodically and is used by industry participants for product planning and risk management as digital payments incorporate more automation and artificial intelligence.
